At The Inn*, we are always undertaking new and exciting projects for our residents and guests.

The inside of the main building has recently undergone an extensive renovation, taking extra care to respect and be sensitive to its historic heritage as she approaches her 200th birthday.

We have even had people returning year after year, with some expecting to make The Inn their permanent residence very soon.  However, after extensive discussions, we have come to the conclusion that the larger room sizes and amenities available in the main building have made it cost-prohibitive to others who may want to enjoy our little slice of Heaven on the coast of Maine.

And, over the winter and during spring, we broke ground on a new and exciting project.

The Village at The Old Southport Inn.

Oh I know.

Super exciting.

So much room for new guests and residents.

So much extra income!

Using only the finest materials, we first installed the foundation for the seven luxury cottages that will eventually be constructed on site.

The first four were carefully crafted to our designer’s exquisite specifications.  The two seen below have been staged for our soft opening weekend.  Cottage amenities such as full seed stocking will not be included in the rates, but can be arranged for an additional fee.

We have undertaken this project with the utmost luxury, privacy, and security in mind.

Yes, The Village at The Old Southport Inn is a gated community.

One of our finishing touches on The Village is the beautiful Willow Trellis located between each the four (eventually seven) cottages.

The Willow Trellis was the brainchild of our head of design, who had heard tales of large, wolf-like creatures known locally as ShepHerds, leaping the gorgeous stone wall that creates that sense of privacy and security for The Inn itself as well as the new Village. With that in mind, along with the need for an open, airy feeling – and to extend the potential beauty of our expansive gardens, the idea of the Willow Trellis took root.

Because wolves leaping between cottages can be unsettling.

We expect our Master Gardener to come up with some spectacular climbing floral, such as Somethingeralis or Othericulus, by next season.

Our soft opening was last weekend, and everyone worked very hard to put the finishing touches on the new cottages.

Guests explored the grounds and seemed thrilled at this new option for dining and lodging on our beautiful island.

We did have a few issues with guests attempting to remove the amenities from their rooms…

But we are now working on a classy note, placed on a silver tray in each room, letting our guests know that any amenity missing from their room will be added to their final tab.

So that’s it!

Oh… that?

That’s just… um… well that is The Villa.

It’s our snotty… oh, I mean… it’s our VIP accommodation. Not really available to the plebs…er… the general public for reservation (kind of a super duper secret private thing). Separated by a river of fine slate stepping stones, it sits on its own, with a gorgeous view of the water and gardens.

But, really, who would ever want or need that much space?

New money probably…

Like (shudder)… squirrels.

But I kind of hope they don’t discover us, and we manage to keep this down home, true Maine feeling here at The Inn and The Village.

I’m sure we can keep it a secret for a little while longer.

*Just a reminder that “The Inn” was once really an inn, well-known for its lobster bakes and relaxing spot by the water.  But this was back in the early 1900s. It’s been a home since about 1918/1920 as far as our research tells us.  So today, if I woke up to strangers in their bathrobes hanging out in my kitchen and waiting for breakfast, I might be a little uncomfortable…. or a lot.
