Patriotism Pre-Sunrise

This morning, I woke up…

Too early.

Brushed my teeth…

Too early.

Pulled on my exercise pants and shoved my arms into my t-shirt…

Too early.

Got into my car, pulled out of the driveway…

Too early.

Noticed the sunlight just beginning to show itself above the trees…

Too early.

Then, having passed the cows and wound down a country road, I arrived at an intersection and came to a stop at the exact moment that a man jogged by, carrying with him an American flag that he gladly tipped toward anyone who waved.  And my sleepy self was coaxed from my morning’s foggy brain and thought…

Huh.

Not too early.

Not too early, at all.
