Winter Heart

Love is a million infinitesimal and often maddeningly elusive elements that make up the ambience of another’s soul and, whether suddenly or over a period of months or years or decades, your own soul takes note… and is rocked… whether just a little bit, or to its core.

That was my answer when a fellow writer asked what love is.  I believe it too. It is maddening to try to pinpoint what, in a partner or friend or lover or son or daughter or dang dog… what is it that reaches out and captures our souls so completely that we are helpless… captured… wrapped in joy at the mere thought that we inhabit the same world.  It is the essence of magic, and might have been the genesis of gratitude.
