… on a late poppy
June 17, 2018
The fairies came by ones and twos
Some with colors, reds and blues
Others with the Ladder Crews
(Each with Ladder Crew tattoos)
See, Poppy’d been about to do
That poppy yearly deja vu
Where, suddenly, out of the blue
His kind bloomed large with much ado
But
He really wasn’t ready to
Open up because he knew
His petals, sadly, through and through
Were lily-white and void of hue
Well, clearly this just wouldn’t do
So Poppy raised a ballyhoo
And fairies rallied, tried and true
With paints and brushes (a whole slew)
At dawn, the fairies bid adieu
And as the morning warmed anew
With six brushstrokes (all fresh and new)
Poppy finally made…
His spring debut.
